Carly Weber

  • 1st Year Trainee - Applied Developmental Psychology

Carly Weber is a second year Master’s student in the field of Applied Developmental Psychology with a concentration in Infant Mental Health at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. In the spring of 2017, she graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies and a minor in Deafness and Hearing Studies. While attending The Pennsylvania State University, she was an active and prominent member in the Sign Language Organization, the college of Health and Human Development student council, and various band activities. While holding her position as president of the Sign Language Organization, Carly worked to form partnerships with the organization and community partners (i.e. public schools and a charter school) to implement afterschool sign language clubs for elementary students at these locations. During the latter part of her undergraduate career, Carly volunteered at EasterSeals Child Development Center. She worked as a volunteer in all the classrooms working with children ages 1 through 5, an intern in the 1-year old room, and a Personal Care Aid (PCA) with a child with special needs in the preschool classroom. After graduation, Carly continued working at EasterSeals for the summer prior to attending graduate school.

During her first year in graduate school, at the University of Pittsburgh, Carly worked as a Child Life Assistant in the rehabilitation units at The Children’s Institute in Squirrel Hill. There, she created, developed, and implemented play activities with the children with special healthcare needs in both the in-patient rehabilitation unit and the behavioral health unit. Carly worked at The Children’s Institute from August 2017 until May 2018 when the rehabilitation units were closed. In addition, she volunteers at Magee-Women’s Hospital in the Lactation Center, helping families with rentals and purchases of breast pumps and other lactation supplies.

Carly is excited to be a 2018-2019 LEND trainee. She has high hopes to improve her leadership and advocacy skills that will help her to better serve children and families, keeping in mind the emphasis on community awareness of individuals and families with disabilities.
