On October 12th, LEND faculty joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine to create a discussion around dental care for children with complex needs including autism spectrum disorders.
Faculty members included:
- Miya R. Asato, MD
- Cheryl Messick, PhD, CCC-SLP
- Elaine Mormer, PhD
- Richard W. Rubin, DDS, MPH
- Michele Stein, OTR/L, SLT
- Dori Ortman, Family Mentor
Approximately 150 students attended; the goal of the panel was to aid dental students in a case presentation, and through a Q and A session, foster different perspectives on how care may be administered. LEND faculty helped dental students identify ways a multidisciplinary approach can be employed to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for children with special health care needs.
