  • 2017-2018 Audiology

Alicia Hutchison is a 3rd year Doctor of Audiology student at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a 2015 graduate from Central Michigan University where she graduated from the Honors program with a Bachelors of Science in Communication Disorders and Psychology.

Alicia was introduced to the field of audiology when a family friend was born deaf and received bilateral cochlear implants. Seeing this friend’s progress through the years was truly inspirational. Throughout high school and college she was involved in Miracle League, Special Olympics including Healthy Hearing, was a Girls on the Run coach, and coached club field hockey.

Working with children is something Alicia has continued to do since high school when she became a certified safesitter. Upon arrival in Pittsburgh, Alicia obtained employment as a newborn hearing screener for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for over 2 years during her graduate studies.

While at Pitt, Alicia initiated a Hearing Conservation Program for students at the University Wellness Center, as part of a mentored clinical project. In 2015 she received the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) student research travel award, and again in 2016 for student travel as well as meritorious poster submission related to her Wellness Center work. This work was also presented at the 2016 American Academy of Audiology Conference.

Alicia will be spending her 4th year AuD externship at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Alicia is excited to a be a 2017-2018 LEND trainee as she looks forward to the interdisciplinary teamwork, and providing the best family centered care to help her become a better pediatric audiologist.
