Megan is a second-year master’s student at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public Health in the Department of Human Genetics.  She is also pursuing a certificate in Health Equity.  Megan graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 2020 with dual bachelor’s degrees in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Psychology: Neuroscience Option.  At Penn State, she was a Family Relations chair for the bands’ THON organization, a THON Special Events Committee Member, as well as a 2019 THON Dancer.  These experiences allowed Megan to work closely with and form lasting relationships with children battling cancer and their families.

In 2019, Megan had the opportunity to work with students who are deaf and hard of hearing through employment with Penn State’s Science Outreach Program – Science U.  She was responsible for leading a group of students through STEM activities.  Megan is also passionate about health education and literacy.  As a graduate student at Pitt, Megan completed her practicum with the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center Early Head Start (COTRAIC EHS), where she worked with low-income families with children birth to three years, learning about early childhood screenings, intervention referrals, and various social determinants of health.  She also spends time each week volunteering at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.  As a public health professional, Megan looks forward to working for a nonprofit or in a healthcare setting to support individuals and families in marginalized populations.
