Alicia Harmon is a second year MSW student at Pitt concentrating on Direct Practice and specializing in Mental Health. Being a first generation college student, Alicia’s acceptance into the MSW program is one of her proudest accomplishments. Throughout Alicia’s college career, which started at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she has made it her mantra to gain as many experiences as possible. Since her start of college work in 2006, Alicia has gained a BA in Sociology, and a love for helping people.

In order to gain hands on experience, Alicia has worked as a TSS/CSS and a therapeutic camp counselor for children with mental health and special needs.  She has also completed two internships at the agency Auberle; one of them being in the field of child welfare and foster care, and the other on a male juvenile delinquent residential unit. Through these enriching experiences, Alicia has gained a passion for helping children and families with mental illness and disabilities.

Because of this, Alicia was drawn to the LEND program. She notes that being accepted as a LEND Trainee is another one of her greatest accomplishments! This year, Alicia will continue her course work as an MSW, participate as a LEND Trainee, and intern at the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit #7 Clairview school. She is excited to gain even more experience and to grow as a professional in her last year of coursework!
