Julie Lamagna

  • Speech Language Pathology

Julie Lamagna is a 2nd year graduate student in the Master’s of Speech-Language Pathology program at the University of Pittsburgh. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky in 2018, with a major in Communication Sciences and Disorders and minor in International Studies. During her undergraduate studies, Julie studied abroad in Rome, and spent a summer doing service work in Haiti. These experiences gave her a unique perspective about multicultural care and advocacy on a global scale. Julie is passionate about connecting with people of different cultural and diverse backgrounds.

Between her undergraduate and graduate studies, Julie worked as a paraprofessional aide at The Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh in The Day School, where she worked with children and adolescents with disabilities. Julie’s interest in disability advocacy began in high school while mentoring a friend with Down syndrome where she learned the value of speech-language therapy. She hopes to continue to learn how to better support children with disabilities and their families as she begins her career. Specifically, Julie’s dream would be to work collaboratively in a pediatric medical setting, specifically in a feeding/swallowing clinic or inpatient rehabilitation unit in a children's hospital.

Julie is grateful for the opportunity to be a trainee in the LEND program and is eager to learn from experts in the field and grow through a team-based approach. She is also looking forward to learning from individuals who have disabilities and their families on ways to promote inclusion and patient/family centered care.
