  • 1st Year Trainee - Dietetics

Nicole DeStefano is a master’s student at the University of Pittsburgh in the Clinical Dietetics and Nutrition program. While attending the University of Pittsburgh as an undergraduate, Nicole involved herself in CCChampions, an organization that helps connect children with cancer to their heroes. She started the countries first ever club level organization, which helped fund many children’s connections. She has been a Food Educator Intern with Cornell Cooperative Extension-Eat Smart New York Hudson Valley. During this time, she ran nutrition education lectures on varying topics targeting a variety of audiences and settings. For the past four summers, she has also participated in Camp Delicious with Leslie Bonci as a camp counselor. Here, Nicole interacted with, educated, and inspired children to become engaged in the kitchen and taught the importance of making cooking fun. She has also been involved in data collection for a study entitled GDM2. The studies goal was to examine pregnant females with gestational diabetes and develop the relationship between their metabolic profiles and their infant’s growth pattern. Nicole’s responsibility was to reach out to the participants of the study and collect their daily intake to better understand the subject’s metabolic profile.

Impacted by her life experiences and community works and driven by her passion, she aims to specialize in pediatrics with genetic disorders. She has a passion for learning and wishes to make a difference in the quality of healthcare that her patients receive. She looks forward to working as a member of an interdisciplinary team, where she can work with patients to achieve their goals using best practice. Nicole is excited to be a part of Lend, where she knows she will gain hands-on experience so that she may become an excellent clinician, educator, and leader in the profession.
