Beth Myers

Beth Myers is a parent and an educator. She is an Early Childhood Educator working at the Children’s School at Carnegie Mellon University. Beth has a Bachelor’s of Arts in English from William Smith College and a Masters of Arts from the University of Pittsburgh in Education, Administration and Policy Studies (Social and Comparative Analysis of Education). Her academic, professional and personal interests are focused on the processes of learning in both formal and informal educational environments. From 2001-2010 Beth played and worked as an educator and manager at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh.

In 2005, Beth’s son was diagnosed with a serious seizure disorder. Her son is a child with multiple disabilities including developmental delay and Autism. Through her son’s journey, Beth has 14 years of parental experience working with, and advocating from within an array of educational, behavioral, medical and rehabilitative service providers. She also served on the Family Advisory Council at the Children’s Institute for over five years, two as the Chair to the FAC.

Beth’s experience as an educator and family advocate has been a catalyst for investment in working alongside other families who include people with special needs. She is thrilled to be a part of University of Pittsburgh’s LEND program to learn more about local family-centered care initiatives, as well as being a resource for family advocacy in her community
