Marissa Lahr is a LEND trainee and Speech-Language Pathology student in the
Department of Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh.
Lahr received her bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders
(Honors) and Psychology with minors in Communication for Healthcare Professionals
and Childhood Studies at Case Western Reserve University in 2021. She is currently a
graduate student researcher in the Department of Communication Science and
Disorders Bilingual Phonology Lab, where she supports a project that is working
towards reducing discrimination of minoritized groups through the development of
equitable speech and language assessment procedures for bilingual, Latino
preschoolers. Lahr became interested in working in this field due to undergraduate
mentors and through her experiences as a camp counselor at Victory Junction - a
summer camp for children with complex medical, developmental, and neurological
needs. She received a first place prize for her senior undergraduate research thesis at
the Case Western Reserve University Intersections: Symposium and Poster Session.
The project was titled Morphological Development in Children with Speech Sound
Disorders and was geared toward more fully understanding morphological development
of children with and without speech sound disorders. Her future goals include serving
minorities and underserved populations in the field of Speech-Language Pathology.
